For a small country, Costa Rica is full of diverse landscapes and regions.

North Pacific
The northern region of the country’s Pacific Coast is mainly comprised of the Nicoya Peninsula. This relatively dry area is home to beaches, chilled out beach towns, and world famous waves.

Central Pacific
Beaches backed by tropical rainforest run the length of the coast with popular surfing and destination beaches like Jacó, Manuel Antonio and Dominical. Sunset off the Pacific Coast is a golden spectacle.

South Pacific
A gateway for surfing, diving and fishing, this area includes the Osa Peninsula with its famous Corcovado National Park and Drake Bay; one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

Central North
This area gives easy access to Arenal volcano, which can be observed erupting almost daily, and the Monteverde cloudforest, which beckons with cool, misty forests full of tropical plants and birds.

Central Valley
The Central Valley and surrounding highlands include the capital, San José, and the nearby cities Escazú, Alajuela, Cartago, and Heredia. This is a coffee growing region and the economic center of the country.

Central South
This quiet part of Costa Rica has less tourism than other areas, but is ruggedly attractive with charming towns, parks full of rare wildlife and Costa Rica’s highest peak, Chirripó.

North Caribbean
The steamy northern region of this coast is sparsely populated. Accessible by a network of canals, it has superb wildlife viewing, especially for green sea turtles, in Tortuguero National Park.

South Caribbean
This predominantly English-speaking part of the country was influenced by immigration from Jamaica and Barbados. It hosts Costa Rica’s biggest carnival in Limón, and is known for its relaxed beach towns.
